Fencing Penrith

Landscaping Penrith takes fencing jobs across the Penrith area: Colorbond and timber boundary fences, side gates, plinths for sloping blocks and pool fencing. A local fencer we work with visits your block, measures the boundary and checks the levels, then agrees a clear price and what's included with you before any work starts.

What sets the price of a fence

The fencer prices your fence at the site visit, from what they see on the block:

  • The length and height of the fence, and the material (Colorbond, timber paling, hardwood or aluminium)
  • How many gates, and how wide
  • Whether the old fence has to come out and be taken away
  • A plinth where one yard sits higher than the next
  • How easy it is to get along the boundary

On a boundary fence, your neighbour usually pays half (see the questions below).

Fences on a Penrith block

Much of Penrith sits on clay that swells when it's wet, shrinks when it's dry and drains slowly. Fence posts go into concrete footings, and a plinth along the base keeps the bottom of the panels off the wet soil. In a summer storm, water that can't soak in runs across the yards, so the fencer checks where it goes before setting a solid plinth across its path.

Older suburbs

Kingswood and St Marys

Many blocks still have timber paling fences. Replacing one means taking the old fence out and agreeing the material, colour and height with the neighbour.

New estates

Jordan Springs and Glenmore Park

Check your estate's guidelines before choosing a front fence. A side gate wide enough for the bins and a mower saves trouble later.

The foothills

Leonay and Emu Heights

Where the block falls, the panels step down the slope, and plinths hold back the soil where the yards sit at different levels. Where the drop is bigger than a plinth can hold, it becomes a retaining wall job.

Acreage

Mulgoa and Orchard Hills

Longer boundary runs and rural fencing. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll say whether we can take it.

Pool fencing

Landscaping Penrith also takes glass and aluminium pool fences, and Colorbond boundary fences that form part of a pool barrier. Pool barriers have their own safety standard, separate from ordinary fences, and the fencer checks your pool area against it at the site visit. If you plan to sell or lease, the pool needs a barrier certificate, so it pays to sort the fence first. For the paving around the pool, see Paving.

What happens after you ask

  1. Send your suburb, the job and a rough length of fence. You hear back within 48 hours.
  2. A local fencer calls to book a visit. On site they measure the boundary and check the levels, the old fence, where storm water runs and whether council approval is needed.
  3. You get a clear price and what's included, agreed before any work starts, and a time frame once they've seen the job.

Questions people ask

How much does a Colorbond fence cost in Penrith?

As a rough guide, about $80 to $190 a lineal metre for a 1.8 m Colorbond fence, installed (What's The Damage?, Sydney, October 2026). These are published guide figures, not a quote for your job. The length and height, the number of gates, a plinth on a sloping block and taking out the old fence set your price, and the fencer agrees it with you at the site visit, before any work starts.

Will my neighbour pay half the fence?

Usually, for a standard boundary fence. Under the NSW Dividing Fences Act 1991, neighbours share the cost of a "sufficient" dividing fence equally, and whoever wants something better pays the difference. Start with a fencing notice to your neighbour that sets out the work and the price.

Do I need council approval for a fence in Penrith?

Usually not for a side or back fence up to 1.8 m, or a front fence up to 1.2 m. Taller fences, masonry over 1.2 m, and blocks on the State Heritage Register or on bushfire-prone land are different. The fencer checks yours at the site visit.

Answer the questions for a quick guide.

Corner blocks, bushfire-prone land and rural blocks have extra conditions. The landscaper checks yours at the site visit. A guide only, not legal advice.

Does a fencer need a licence in NSW?

Yes, for fencing work worth more than $5,000 in labour and materials, including GST. You can check a licence online or in the Service NSW app.

Can you take the old fence away?

Ask at the site visit. Whether the old fence is taken away, and the cost, is agreed in the price before any work starts.

How long does a new fence take?

The fencer gives you a time frame after the site visit, once they've seen the boundary, the levels and the old fence.
